About Duration Calculation

The Duration Calculator helps you calculate time differences between dates, add or subtract time periods, and compute work hours. Essential for project planning, billing, scheduling, and time management.

How Duration Calculations Work

1

Time Between Dates

Duration = End DateTime - Start DateTime

Calculates total time difference in various units

2

Add/Subtract Time

Result Date = Start Date ± Duration

Adds or subtracts specified time period

3

Work Hours Calculation

Excludes non-work hours, weekends, and holidays

Considers customizable work schedules

4

Business Days

Excludes weekends and specified holidays

Standard: Monday to Friday, excluding holidays

Time Management Tips

  • Buffer Time: Always add 10-20% buffer to estimated durations for unexpected delays
  • Prioritize Tasks: Use duration calculations to prioritize time-sensitive tasks
  • Batch Similar Tasks: Group similar tasks to minimize context switching time
  • Track Actual vs Estimated: Compare estimated vs actual durations to improve future estimates
  • Consider Time Zones: For global teams, account for different time zones in scheduling
  • Include Breaks: Account for breaks and transition time between tasks
  • Use Milestones: Break large projects into smaller milestones with their own durations
Note: Duration calculations are based on continuous time. For business day calculations, standard assumptions are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, excluding holidays. Custom schedules can be configured. Leap seconds are not accounted for in standard calculations. For critical scheduling, always verify with official calendars and consider local variations in holidays and work schedules.

How do I calculate duration between two dates?

Enter start date/time and end date/time. The calculator will compute the difference in years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
